Hello everyone and welcome to our last week of July
These gorgeous blue skies we are enjoying at the moment have us delighted to be able to say we can now go and enjoy the grandchildren playing sport again. Sure there is still strict supervision, but the enjoyment certainly outweighs the regulations we have to abide by.
It has been a tough year for the children. Will is in his final year of school, and so many things have been put on hold. He is handling it well, but I can see the change in him now his Saturday sport is back. He is football crazy and loves his goalkeeping duties. While football is his Saturday goal, it is the delayed GPS Cross-country that has him really excited this week. Normally run in Term two it is now on Tuesday 4th August. I must admit it is probably my favourite event of the year, and this will be the last time for all of us to cheer him on.
I have loved the Cross country since Primary School. I remember clearly his first event at Primary school. Of course, we were excited to just be there but to see him come back on the oval well clear of his school mates brought tears of joy. There was a hiccup when he switched Primary schools but only in his first year there. He has always deserved to do well. They say when you put the effort in you get the rewards and looking at Will, he is justly rewarded. He is quietly confident his age group will win their section on Tuesday. It will be a team effort, and I will be there barracking. A win will be a fitting climax to his effort and dedication not only this year but over his entire 12 years of schooling.
A real surprise was Mathilda's selection in the 9A Netball team. Tilly has not done a lot of training through the lockdown period but still burst to the fore in the team trials. She is a wonderful goal shooter and could go a long way with her netball, but she needs to get a little more serious.
We are looking forward to standing well back and watching her in action.
John loves watching Jack – our eldest – coach one of the school's basketball teams. Jack loves it too. He is so intense, but the Grade 9 boys love it, and they have started the season with a couple of comfortable wins. However, Jack prefers to look ahead and has his team fully focused on what lies ahead. He fully realises the tough games are still in front of them. Last year they were premiers, so all the opposition schools are well aware they are the side to beat this year.
Sport is a wonderful part of life. It can teach us all so much. Sure it is nice to win, but we also have to be good losers. I am not sure John is adhering to that at the moment with his mighty Broncos having such a devastating run. However John aside it is nice to see the children accept a loss realising they had not been at their best or in fact conceding the opposition were simply too good on the day. So much comes back to the effort and dedication you put in. This applies not only in sport but in life and business as well. Success follows the commitment. The formula - Effort, Dedication =Success.
Enjoy your weekend and hopefully times with your families and I will let you know next week if my cheering was a success at the Cross Country on Tuesday.
Take care and stay safe, and we send love and blessings from our home to your home.
Cheers
Annette
