Hello Special People
Each week, as we sit to pen our blog, we ponder things of interest from our family to your families. We hope each of you has enjoyed a happy and healthy week with your loved ones and can relate and connect our day-to-day lives with your week.
Family – like the branches on a tree. We all grow, yet our roots remain as one.
We are just gearing up to welcome our NZ grandchildren, who are on their way for school holidays. While we talk to them regularly, we are always so happy to have them here with us. They arrive Saturday, and of course, with the big finals match between the Broncos and Warriors (NZ), we are all off to the footy on Saturday night. Mark said the boys were all so excited. He has purchased the Broncos gear for the three of them. Mark has always seen himself as an Aussie and is always trying to convert his boys. Pa has been ribbing the eldest Johnny already and is hoping to be seated next to him on Saturday night. Johnny has been following the Warriors and has been taken back by their success this season. So many New Zealanders are on the Rugby bandwagon. It will be a fun night, but I must say Pa will not find it fun if the Warriors win.
Summer has come quickly here in Brisbane. I am out in the garden trying to keep everything alive. Our star jasmine hedge is certainly heralding the warm weather and is in full bud, ready to flower.
John is still a little handicapped with his leg and is mostly confined to house duties. He still manages the shopping, making several trips to our local Aldi store every day. It is our closest supermarket.
Apart from Mathilda's formal with her partner Doug on Friday evening, the week has been relatively quiet. Leisa and Mathilda have travelled to Yamba for a restful week before Mathilda faces up to her final Grade 12 examinations. Her school has organized a Study Week at their Country Retreat for the second week, so she will be on the bus on Monday for the final camp of her school life.
Yes, today being Thursday, we have been to our weekly exercise session at QUT. With the additional session of Aqua Aerobics I have commenced on Mondays, I am considering stopping the gym. We have three Aqua yoga sessions along with the Aqua Aerobics each week, and we love to fit in a casual walk at the weekends, so stopping the gym is a real consideration now. I do not enjoy the gym, so while I have not fully decided, it is looking rather likely the gym session will go.
Apart from the garden, which I love, I also love the opportunity to be in the kitchen and have found a couple of yummy recipes this week. With Fennel season coming back into the markets, we enjoyed Fennel Roasted Pork tenderloin with sweet onions along with another favourite, Braised red cabbage and fennel this week. John and I took a drive last Sunday to Gatton and found a great roadside store selling avocados, fresh garlic, limes and pumpkin, which have all found their way into great meals this week. We particularly enjoyed the Creamy Avocado pasta Sauce with fresh pasta and parmesan cheese. We always find fresh local fruit and produce especially delicious.
Let's close today with the reminder of the Compounding effect of Gratitude – Expressing gratitude is usually a small act and does not usually require any grand plans or actions – it is relatively easy to do, is enjoyable, and leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Gratitude is a 'thank you,' a hug, a kiss, a handwritten letter, a nice text, a journal entry – and positively affects both the giver, the receiver, and more than likely, all of the people they come into contact with after gratitude is expressed. When we express gratitude every day, it has the potential to unleash a powerful compound effect.
We express an attitude of gratitude to each of you for your lovely comments and feedback each week – thank you. Take care as we send the blessings of peace, health and happiness. Love Annette
