Hello everyone and especially to all the Mothers out there – Happy Mother’s Day. It is indeed a very special day, and I hope you all get to celebrate Sunday in some special way.
Mother’s Day is a celebration honouring the mothers of the family as well as motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society.
Over the years, I have been most fortunate to do many special things. I clearly remember numerous picnics in the park, special dinners, starting the day with a family breakfast or brunch at my favourite café. Last year we had Mum with us. John took her out shopping for a present for me. They ended up at a plant nursery, and I am sure it will be a day that lingers in John's memory for many years. Mum just loves roses, and she had set her mind on buying me a rose. But she wasn't satisfied with just buying the rose. She had to check the whole place out. Remember, at that stage, she was 94 and a little frail. John gave her the walker and said, "Let's go, Mum". They were away for about 4 hours. That rose is one I will cherish forever.
This year we will visit Mum in the Nursing Home. She is having her ups and downs at the moment. We are hoping Mother's Day will be a good day, and she understands why we are celebrating. Whatever the day brings, I will be grateful she is still with us. She has been the most remarkable mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
My Mother’s Day will commence with Brunch with Leisa and her family. We have a favourite breakfast restaurant at Paddington. It is a place I always look forward to going. The three grandchildren will be celebrating with us. So it will be an exciting and special start to the day. Mark was here from New Zealand last week, and I received some beautiful jewellery from a gorgeous New Zealand collection. So thoughtful, and we also enjoyed our treasured time together. I am sure we will have a face time catch up on Sunday with his three boys.
Another beautiful Mother's Day Gift 🎁
Once again, Social Media comes to the fore on these special days. Many of you I know will be relying on it. While we may find it frustrating at times, it is days like these that we are so thankful for the platform. Yes, when the children immerse themselves on the phone, it raises the eyebrows, but we can certainly look at the good side for Sunday. It is so much better and more personal than the old phone call. While we are blessed to have family around us for the day on Sunday, we pray for the families who cannot be with their loved ones, especially those from troubled homes, those who have lost their loved ones and those who are apart because of distance or restrictions. As we close tonight, we share two quotes from Mother Teresa and Maya Angelou as we wish each of you and your loved ones a very happy day of celebrations.
