Hello Special People, and welcome to the cold and chilly July.
Gosh, hasn't it been cold? We have been in Brisbane for many years now, and I can't remember it being so cold. It reminded both of us about New Zealand winters. On our many visits to Mark and his family over the years, we have felt the bitterness of their Winters. We have even had the rain, which also coincides with the New Zealanders.
The cold had John go digging for his warmer clothes this week. He found an old fleece we purchased in Ireland many years ago, and he says it is the "bee's knees". "Never been warmer, Annette". Should have dragged this out weeks ago." I have mentioned before that he is a bit of a sook when it comes to the cold.
Fortunately, we have both been busy both socially and work-wise and, on the run, so there have been many days when there was not time to feel the cold.
I would love to share with you all John's new interest. He has joined a horse racing syndicate headed by well know footballer Billy Slater. He was on a high when the first runner won at Ipswich a couple of weeks ago but came back to earth on Saturday when two runners could only finish midstream. "Don't worry, Annette, there will be next week" he said. And yes, he has a runner at Eagle Farm and a two-year-old having his first start at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. The Syndicate is so well organized. John receives a video report on all the training and, of course, on race day. I'm sure he will have me off to the races to meet the horses soon. A great interest for him, and he is just loving it.
While we have always enjoyed movies since Covid 2020, we have not been to a cinema, so now we both love Netflix. We recently watched the movie “Concussion” and had to admire the doctor who took the American Football League to task with his findings. While they tried to keep him quiet, he was a person of principle and was never going to bend. His work has helped so many in the sport now, and while he was excited to have his findings accepted, he still remained humble. A great movie, and many lessons to be learnt. It is an oldie, but I am sure you will find it on Netflix.
From my territory, apart from a spot of gardening, I have been hitting the kitchen in the cold weather—much to John's disgust. I love making soup, and I haven't heard too many complaints. In fact, he does give me credit for the end product. But he can't stand the mess I make and leave behind for him to clean up. I just tell him that's what first-class chefs do and leave with a smile.
My new favourite dish this week is Peanut Butter chicken. I love cooking and particularly love being able to use all the beautiful fresh herbs we purchase at the local market on a Saturday. I so admire all the stall holders who hop up in the early hours of the morning to display their local produce. It is always so healthy and fresh. I love to support their efforts and must admit do come away with probably more yummy veges and herbs than we need.
We trust that each of you has also enjoyed a happy week and that you are keeping warm and safe. We again thank so many of you for your lovely feedback, and remember, we are just as keen to hear from you and your adventures of the week.
Let’s close for this week with a small snippet of Adele Basheer – For Adele, life is all about "Showing up on the page. You may not know where to begin or where it will lead you, but as long as you show up, you are halfway there.” Her motto – “At intrinsic, we love to touch people's hearts, create joy and inspire those around us. I believe within each of us is the capacity to express love, to show compassion, share a magic moment and make a difference, When you open your heart, you add light to the world"
Blessings of peace, health and happiness. Annette x
