Hello Special People
Well, what a fun day we enjoyed last Saturday with our 'Give Back to the Customer Day'. It was so special to hear from so many of you. John and I really appreciate each and every one of you, and yes I did take John to the office and chastise him for being so cheeky to some of you. However, after so many years, I think strong talk is like water on a ducks back to him. I haven't told him yet, but Saturday's big day is not over for him, however. Once the product arrives, he is having the job of packing the orders and distributing them. It will be a pleasurable task, and I know he will do it smiling. We certainly love the opportunity to acknowledge and be able to thank each of you our valued and loyal customers knowing that the extra bonus offers is our way of being able to say thank you.
We were so fortunate to be able to go to Toowoomba on Thursday to celebrate Mum’s 95th birthday with her. I had organised a Morning Tea at James Street Grocer as a surprise for her. Somehow she did get to know about it before the event, but she was surprised to see so many of her friends and family there to greet her when she arrived. Mum is currently nursing a broken elbow and is in Respite care in Toowoomba. At first, it was torture for her, but as the weeks pass, I can sense she is mellowing, fully realising she needs the expert attention. Alex and his staff at James Street Grocer certainly went out of their way to ensure an extra special morning for Mum. Our guests were met with an ice-cold Elderflower, mint and apple drink awaiting Mum's arrival and then the Birthday Cake – chocolate – was just superb Lots of laughs and fun stories told. The only time Mum complained was when the three sons-in-law suggested they should have a photo with her. "Well that would be a waste," was the quick reply but the boys still insisted and also let her know they didn't appreciate her comment. All three have done so much for her over the years, and Mum is most appreciative of each of them. She just toys with them, and they do the same to her—good friendly fun.
We would love to thank so many of you, family and friends for the special messages to ensure she had the happiest day. We have attached a few photos, and there are more on our personal FB page if you would love to share the morning's excitement with us.
After the Birthday Party, it was off to lunch, and the proud 95-year-old announced it was the best birthday she has ever had. She was really happy and enjoyed a Haloumi and Avocado salad for lunch before going home to respite. John and I are looking forward to being able to visit her in the home next Friday when the restrictions are lifted.
For all of you who have been following our Rose project, I can tell you I am smiling. I am picking roses every day. Can you believe it? I traumatised so many of you in our early days. Still, I have weathered the storm with patience and perseverance and stick ability. They do need a lot of attention, but I love being out there every morning. Last week, John joked that we might have enough flowers to sell in the forthcoming week. "I told him I will never be selling any of these prized possessions" – not a funny joke John.
How gorgeous was that beautiful rain over the last couple of days? Hope your gardens and lawns enjoyed it as much as ours did. Everywhere is looking so beautiful and green. On Thursday, our trip to Toowoomba highlighted how green the fields and valleys were and how Mother Nature can so quickly turn the brown paddock into such a pretty landscape.
While we enjoy sharing our day to day lifestyle with you, we are also so happy when we hear from you with similar interest and stories.
John and I have both been enjoying the books we received for Xmas, and I look forward to putting my feet up this afternoon and continuing Barack Obama’s book “A Promised Land”. You may find his maiden political campaign as interesting as I did. “Following my Mothers’ advice, I threw myself into my maiden political campaign. It makes me laugh to think back on what a bare-bones operation it was – not much more sophisticated than a campaign for student council. There were no pollsters, no researchers, and no TV or radio boys. My announcement, on September 19, 1995, was at the Ramada In in Hyde Park, with pretzels and chips and a couple of hundred supporters – probably a quarter of whom were related to Michelle. Our campaign, literature consisted of an eight-by-four-inch card with what looked like a passport picture of me, a few lines of biography, and four or five bullet points that I’d tapped out on my computer.” I am loving reading this amazing man’s story.
We send our love and blessings for a healthy, happy week and until next week.
Stay safe and keep smiling.
Cheers Annette
