Hello Special People
Gosh, how quickly these weeks seem to fly by. We trust that you and yours have had a great week. I would have to say our week has been rather mixed. I commenced with the Fairholme Fete. Leisa always loves going back to her old school, so I joined her and Craig to spend the day in Toowoomba. I enjoyed it as well, and yes, we had a lovely day. I even had the chance to have lunch with my sister and husband before we headed back home.
The week started to change on Sunday morning. John jammed his thumb in the car door as we arrived at church. At first, it looked like a minor injury, but as the days progressed, it was an injury full of trauma. He required a doctor's visit by Tuesday. I have never seen an entire nail go, so black and nail surrounds are similar. Fortunately, no broken bones.
I joined John on Monday, taking a fall while I was rushing around doing the washing. It was a heavy tumble, and I damaged my left arm, wrist and hand. John was out shopping, and by the time he arrived home, I was in unbearable pain. So, the rest of the day was spent at the emergency doctor, off to imagining, and then home to icing, Panadol, and Voltaren. Thankfully, there were no breaks, and while the first 24 hours were extremely painful, I had improved by the next morning and up and about. John says it was his nursing that made the difference. My arm, wrist and hand are still very weak, and I continue to ice and use the Voltaren.
While our injuries are both very painful, the greatest disappointment of the week was our visit to our new unit. Brookfield had invited us to have a pre-settlement inspection. I am sure they made a mistake. It was a disaster. There are so many things to be fixed, and the complex is far from being finished. John was very excited that we were able to go inside. He came away rather depressed and disappointed. The day's exercise was to note all the defects that we could see, so that has been advised. Hopefully, by the next invitation, we will see a difference. Probably the most disappointing news was that we will not be seeing completion until just before Christmas. What should have been the highlight of our week turned out to be our biggest disappointment.
To brighten the latter part of the week, we had our volunteer day with Coffee Brigade. Lots of good harmony and atmosphere here. While making the load for the day, there was a lot of reminiscing about highlighting the turning on of the lights on the Storey Bridge to commence Homeless Week. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening in Captain Burke Park, which is situated under the Storey Bridge. We enjoyed Pizzas and cheered as the lights came on. It was a really memorable night.
With our change in timetable for our Exercises at QUT, Tuesday came around far too quickly. I must say I have taken a new look at our exercise program. I am sure if I had not been doing the muscle toning and strength exercises, the injuries from my fall would have been much more severe. So, once I am back to full use of my arm, I will be putting in extra effort without complaining. Thank you to the students at QUT. These mishaps certainly make us aware of how we use every tiny part of our body and further admiration for our handicapped folk and athletes.
Yep, life has happened this week with several curve balls, but we continue to count our blessings with gratitude and appreciation that the mishaps were not more serious.
Maya Angelou perhaps sums up our week perfectly – "You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them."
We send the blessings of peace, health and happiness to each of you and thank you for your kind and thoughtful feedback on our weekly blogs to keep in touch.
Love and hugs
