Hello Special People
"I take the time today to bask in the love and light of my life. What a glorious day. "Blessings from Louise Hay.
I was amazed to read a story this week about Australia unwrapping the history of a much-loved favourite that has stood the test of time. I don't think there would be too many of us who realize the "Cherry Ripe" chocolate bar is 100 years old this year. I hope you all go out and buy one this week to celebrate this wonderful piece of history.
While it is now part of the Cadbury family, the Cherry Ripe was created by MacRobertson's Steam Confectionery Works Company, which was responsible for making Old Gold, Snack Chocolate, and our much-sought-after Freddo Frogs.
Congratulations to Cadbury for continuing to make the icon "Cherry Ripe" after they bought out MacRobertson in 1967. Not only maintaining the same recipe for the chocolate but also maintaining the same wrapping. Look out in your favourite place to buy the anniversary 100-year "Cherry Ripe." I know they will be so popular. Well done, MacRobertson and Cadbury, for taking this icon into history.
Talking about history, I had my new student for the next six-week block at QUT this morning. He asked me what I did prior to joining Nutrimetics. I told him I used to work at the bank. He wanted to know what sort of work I did at the bank. I explained how we had ledger machines and posted all the transactions, etc. I then went on by saying I was actually at the bank in 1966 when decimal currency was introduced. He looked blank. He had no idea what decimal currency or the conversion was about. I am sure he was convinced I was from the ‘horse and dray” era. He continued on to ask me what decades I have enjoyed most, the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's etc, which prompted my thinking. We do find that when we have the grandchildren here with us, they love hearing the stories of the 'old days,' as they would say.
Gosh, it has been cold here in Brisbane. We have both been grabbing our tracksuits late in the afternoons. I have even been looking for warm socks, something I rarely do. John hardly ever gets out of his shorts, but the Trackie has been a favourite this week.
We enjoyed lunch out with our grandson Will today. We had a surprise invitation yesterday afternoon. "Hi, Granny and Pa. I haven't seen you for a couple of weeks. Can we do lunch tomorrow?" He has been so involved with his exams. It was great giving us the opportunity to ask him all about his forthcoming internship with JP Morgan in Sydney. John was most interested to know about the selection process. We both came away thinking wow, he deserves every accolade. He is off on Sunday for the first five weeks of his internship. It will be his first time living away from home, but I am sure the company will ensure he has a great time.
He went on to tell us he has been working with a guy a couple of days a week managing multi-millions. He loves this type of work and no doubt JP Morgan will love having him enhance their business while he learns future business and life skills. There is no coming home at weekends, but Leisa and Craig have already organized to go down one weekend while he is in Sydney. Like Granny and Pa, they are so proud of him and his achievements.
We were very excited this week to drive to our proposed new unit block to see the scaffolding being dismantled on the building. The gardens in the common areas have also been planted, so we can see the completion date on the Horizon.
My smile this week is actually more thoughts for the week:-
How true is this!!!
I said to John the other evening when we sat down to watch Netflix, "This is my favourite part of the day, relaxing after we have finished our work for the day." He replied, "My favourite part of the day is waking up in the morning!"
What is your favourite part of the day?
As I look back on our week, reflection does prompt our thinking. Yes, there has been a need over the years for Changing Focus – Helen Keller reminds us, "When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened up for us.”
We loved hearing from so many of you last week with your thoughts and comments on our blog – thank you.
Take care and stay warm as we enjoy these brisk, cold, clear blue sky winter days.
Sending love
