Hello Special People
Pretty cool here in Brisbane this morning but beautiful blue skies and sunshine as I write to you.
It has been another busy week. Like most of you, we are kept on our toes. Someone once told me, "Don't count the days. Make the days count." And that's what we endeavour to do here in the French household. There is no time for wasting time.
We are having the grandchildren over for dinner tonight. Leisa and Craig are in Sydney attending a special awards function for lawyers from all around Australia. Craig has had a great year, so I guess there will be plenty of recognition followed by celebrations over the next couple of days. I am sure Leisa has seen her chance for some Sydney shopping and will make the most of her spare time.
Speaking of the grandchildren, we had a lovely event last Saturday. It was Mathilda's semi-formal. So, we all lined up for photos. She looked so beautiful, and the stories on Sunday suggest she had a great time. Looking at the photos with Grannie and Pa not only shows how much she has grown but also indicates how we oldies have shrunk. Mathilda is so tall, and we were both very proud Grannies as she drove off.
A funny story from her preparation for the semi-formal. She is the first in her school in Netball and had to play on Saturday morning. She remarked before the game, "I can't work up a sweat today as I don't want to upset my skin tan." We all laughed, but Pa was a bit more serious, telling her to go out there and play tough, and we will worry about the tan after the match. (Such a male comment, hey? – no idea of priorities!!!!)
Midweek we celebrated John’s brother Keith’s 75th birthday. A fun lunch at one of our favourite cafes at Forest Hill. Just a quiet family affair with my sisters and husbands. It is always great to catch up, and I know we should do it more often. We should not wait for special occasions to catch up and celebrate. Every day, in fact, is a celebration.
I must tell you the importance of having a wise husband in the car beside me while we were driving out into the country. I received a text from Medibank to say I had been in contact with a positive case of omicron and needed to click on the link to request the necessary testing etc. As we had been to the doctors a couple of days prior for a referral for John, I immediately thought someone at the doctor's had been positive hence the text. Page one directly to the Medibank site wanting details- page 2 credit card details required for $1-35 to process the info, which immediately sent alarm bells with my wise husband suggesting I call Medibank. Yep, you are right don't need to tell you the rest – big scam. I was so relieved that I had not ventured further with payment details. So, I hope this may alert any of you who may receive a similar text.
Well, it is off to the kitchen for me. John has already started making his special lemon herb risotto with chicken – which the kids love – so I will don the apron and give him a hand. I am sure the boys will be lining up for seconds. It is their favourite. They just love this dish with chicken and greens. We always love these treasured times with our grandchildren.
As we say goodbye to July, let's ponder Adele's wise words: "Precious moments belong to you – Our greatest joys spring from the laughter, tears and love we share. Life's precious moments."
We have been blessed with many precious moments this week and trust that you and your loved ones have also—wishing each of you peace, health and happiness.
Love Annette
