Hello Special People
"Every experience, no matter how bad it is, holds within it a blessing of some kind." Buddha
Once again, the weather is foremost in our minds with so much rain in many areas. People are suffering, and we pray for them every day. We have been fortunate in Brisbane to miss the lot. It has become very warm, and we do have humidity, but the rain has given us a miss. The weather, though, can be so changing. We travelled to Toowoomba on Saturday in warm, pleasant weather, but by the time we got up on the mountains, we needed wraps and jumpers. It was a real change. Fortunately, our Toowoomba family had warned us, and we had clothing to suit.
We had a lovely day in Toowoomba. We went to celebrate Mum's birthday – she would have been 97. We joined with my sister Dianne and Lesley and their husbands and had a little picnic at the Garden of Remembrance after placing the beautiful flowers on Mum and Dad's grave. As I mentioned earlier in the week, memories did flow, and there were plenty of stories told. It was such a special way to spend the afternoon. Later, we enjoyed dinner with friends before returning to Brisbane. It was a walk down memory lane once again as our dinner with friends was at Encores restaurant. Mum's very favourite restaurant.
Well, this week, I have returned to exercising. The gym on Monday was a killer, just as I expected (actually worse than I had expected). However, I know I must show resilience, so on Tuesday morning, I was up early doing a routine we learnt at Camp Eden, the Health retreat many years ago. We have the DVD, and it is so easy to follow with a session on warming up, stretching and then Chi Gong, which goes for about an hour and still tests us. Wednesday, it was back to Aqua Yoga which I love. I felt quite proud of myself for doing the three days in a row and realize that the consistency will ease the sore joints and muscles. While we enjoyed the break over the holidays, I understand the need for discipline to have the body back in shape after the Xmas festivities. Yep, a bit of a road ahead, and we will meet the challenge.
John is still lying low after his sunspot surgery. His head is quite a sight, and he has resigned himself to staying indoors until the healing process consolidates. At the moment, I am the nursemaid dressing it three times a day. He was so blessed that he did not have to have plastic surgery. He certainly needs to take notice and protect his bald spots while he is outdoors. We have both been so blessed with such good health, so these last couple of months have given us the added opportunity to appreciate how important our health is.
Our New Zealand family arrived home safely. We spoke to Johnny, our eldest grandson, on the phone, and they are busily organizing school uniforms and supplies for 2023. He and John have a lot in common. They both love all the sports, and he is right up there with all the information to discuss with John. They are quite funny to listen to. They support different teams, so that creates plenty of banter. He is just starting to learn to drive, so that will be another interesting topic. 2023 will see our eldest in NZ driving and our youngest here in Brisbane driving. Mathilda is a little advanced and almost ready to take her driving test.
Will our second grandson here in Brisbane and his school friend Charlie have commenced weekly podcasts – "The business of". We are so proud of them, and it is such a privilege to support these young people as they dream about their futures and inspire one another. Their latest guest today was Australia Post CEO, Paul Harry. What an interesting interview. I was certainly educated and had my views of Australia Post challenged for the better after the interview.
Thank you for your lovely feedback each week on our blogs as we share our day-to-day week with you all, and of course, we also love hearing from each of you.
Just as I have been challenged this week, I will leave you with this challenge "To do something today or this week that your future self will thank you for." This is the last question Will and Charlie ask their guest each week – what advice would you have given to your 20 year old self?
Until next week take care and stay safe and be happy.
Cheers Annette
