Hello Special People – as I begin to type the blog this week, I feel the excitement of a fresh new year and the possibilities ahead for each of us. “Live Life Wonderful – Go into the world in all your magnificence. A new door is waiting to open. A new journey is ready to begin." Adele Basheer
We trust that you and your loved ones have enjoyed the blessings of the New Year. We headed down to Yamba and had a great time with our Brisbane family. I managed to stay awake to see the fireworks, which I must admit is a real effort for me. We had been out to dinner – a beautiful five-course meal – so by the time we arrived back home, I didn't have long to wait. It was certainly worthwhile. The fireworks really set the scene for a bright and perfect start to the New Year.
Our New Zealand family were able to extend their holiday for an extra week, so we are loving having them with us until the weekend. John is busy organizing breakfasts and evening meals. It fills my heart to see the Brisbane and New Zealand cousins enjoying meals together. We usually finish the evening with several games of Rummy O, which always creates some laughs (plus some competition, I must admit).
Having 8 + for dinner each night and catering for all the different taste buds has challenged John and me. Thankfully they all love pasta of every variety, and there have been no complaints. Breakfast is the testing one. They all have different sleep patterns, so they come at different times. The menu can vary from croissants, waffles to ham, egg and cheeseburgers. It is time for me to be out of the kitchen and let him appreciate his grandchildren.
After being at the beach over New Year's and enjoying that beautiful breeze off the ocean, I am finding these past couple of days with the heat a challenge. The air conditioning has been on constantly. As I prepare the blog today with the New Zealand children enjoying a movie, we are most grateful for the blessing of air conditioning. They certainly notice the heat here in Brisbane and enjoy the pool most afternoons. John and I are missing the aqua yoga in the pool, but with my nose still in recovery mode and John can't enjoy the water for another week with his eyes still settling down from the cataract removals. The surf at Yamba was a tease, and I could tell he had itchy feet and wanted to enjoy the water.
Reflecting on our personal hobbies – I have been so touched by a couple of the ladies who purchased some of our beautiful roses, sending me texts with photos of the new flowers and buds. I am so happy they have gone to families who will love them as much as I have. For John, he is up in arms this week on how the Broncos season has been interrupted with players being charged over Night Club incidents and of course, Payne Hass will have plenty on his mind away from Football. I understand the comment was made "It's season over already. We need everyone focused if we are to move ahead this year. Sadly, the distractions are already there." Even for John, one of their most loyal supporters, is being tested.
As we commence a new year, it gives us the opportunity to reflect on the past year:- Things that we did that we wished we hadn’t: Things that we said that we wished we could take back: Opportunities that we let pass us by, due to one reason or another. I then realized we do not have to see these things as negatives but as an opportunity for us to change our actions now and in the future. Regret reminds us of what we choose not to repeat…the words we choose not to share…the opportunities not to let pass us by. Regret reminds us to make amends….to forgive ourselves, and move on. We have a bright new year ahead to "dare to Dream -Don't wait for the Universe to give you a sign, The Universe is waiting for you to begin." Adele Basheer
With a new year comes new hopes, ideas, and opportunities to make our lives the best they can be. John and I wish for each of you courage, love, happiness, peace and determination to achieve what you truly desire in your life. Happy New Year.
Love Annette
