Hello Special People
I trust that each of you is enjoying this gorgeous Autumn weather as much as we are. The weather here in Brisbane has been superb: cooler nights for sleeping and cooler mornings. We really noticed the cooler morning today as we headed off to our Aqua Yoga at 7 a.m. There is such a gentleness in the air here in Brisbane in the Autumn; I just love it.
We also enjoyed so much rain at the beginning of Autumn. As we are blessed with so many trees and beautiful foliage around us, it is a perfect invitation for the mosquitoes. They seem to really love me, and as we have just finished laying new turf and watering early morning and late afternoon, it is a perfect invitation for them to join me. While I endeavour to remember to pop on some repellent, I often forget, and the bites during the night remind me. I received a newsletter today with the following recommendation, which we will certainly be putting to the test. We are bits of gadgets freaks here and yes, we have tried many supposed to keep the mozzies away and have not had success with any of them. A few weeks ago, a friend highly recommended the following, which we are going to try. It's a Thermacell EX90 Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller Unit, which retails for $99-99 at Bunnings and is about the size of a big mango. It is rechargeable, but the battery seems to last for a long time. All you must do is put it near you when you are sitting around or eating. When you switch it on, it emits an invisible and odourless vapour that keeps the mozzies away.
We are looking forward to trying it. Let us know if you also have success with the little gadget.
While our blog may seem a little out of character, there are three funny stories that I thought were worth sharing this week.
I thought the following was most appropriate in the current political world.
The Post turtle – While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year-old rancher, whose hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually, the topic got around to one of the political candidates.
The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, that candidate is a "post-Turtle.’”
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post turtle ‘was.
The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road, you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top; that's a 'post turtle.'
The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain.
“You know they didn’t get up there by themselves, they don’t belong up there, they don’t know what to do while they’re up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put them up there to begin with.”
Secondly, an elderly lady took her husband's glasses back to the optometrist and complained that they were not working. When the optometrist questioned what the problem was, she said, "Well, he still can't see things my way through them."
Thirdly, with the joke on me – I found a mobile phone in the ladies bathroom at the hospital this week and decided to take it to the receptionist opposite. The receptionist told me it happened often with people trying to find their way around the hospital. She then said I wonder if the owner’s name and photo are on the phone – yes, wait for it – the million-dollar reply from me – great idea you could phone her to tell her we have found her phone. She looked at me and said – great idea – the only problem is when the phone rings, it is here with us. I just burst out laughing as she did, and she said to me – it has been such a long time since I have had such a good 'belly laugh'. My Mum has just gone into aged care, and it has been so stressful. She thanked me for the good laugh. Just as I was leaving to put the note in the bathroom telling the owner where she could find the phone, she came charging through the door and was, of course, very happy to have her phone back. A happy ending all around.
I guess the following more profound quote/saying could sum up the three. The highest form of love is consideration when someone thinks about how things would make you feel. Pays attention to detail. Holds you in regard when making decisions that could affect you. In any bond, how much they care about you can be found in how much they consider you.
John and I are off to see The Man from Snow River tomorrow afternoon. A gift from a dear friend for Xmas. It is so long since we have been to the Convention Centre, so we are really looking forward to the afternoon performance.
I hope you have found a smile in this week's blog. We continue to thank you all for your kind feedback, which is always appreciated and helps us improve the content of our newsletter.

Enjoy your weekend and the blessings of this beautiful season.
