Hello Special People
What is the true meaning of progress? An expedition, journey or march through a region: a forward or onward movement (as to an objective or a goal): advance: gradual betterment, especially the progressive development of humankind.
As I sat down to write our blog this week, I started to think about the progress that has happened in my lifetime. What bought it to mind was the several doctor's appointments John and I have endured in the past couple of months. Most were routine checks, but oh, how the procedures have changed. If I look at John having the Cataracts removed. Each one a week apart took just 30 minutes, and he now has lenses inserted in both eyes and does not require glasses. A fun story from that procedure was the specialist was wearing Xmas shoes when we had our first appointment. John asked him if he would be wearing them when he operated. He laughed and said, unfortunately, no, as I have to use my feet to operate the machines. For me, I was off to Wesley this week for the annual mammogram. They told me I had been coming for 40 years. (Probably deserved long service plus a medal– I am sure all you ladies understand what I am saying here!!!) I know how much progress has been made in this area in regard to breast screening and breast cancer.
While this area of medicine has progressed, I guess my utter amazement was the Mohs surgery on the BCC on my nose. No longer waiting days for results as in the case of a friend of mine who had to have a skin cancer removed, only to receive results days later and now having to return to hospital in March to have the wound opened and further surgery requiring skin grafts.
Progress in all walks of life is healthy. I look around as I drive around Brisbane and see so many more new buildings. Skyscrapers. How the improvements are being made. A major progression is, of course, our underground rail system. Work has already begun on work for the Olympics. Lots of talk on how the old wharves on the North shore will change with the beautification in that area.
I am continually in wonder with the people Will – our grandson – has on his weekly podcasts. Most self-made multi-millionaires. How they progress in their lives, and how willing they are to share with everyone. In fact, the blog itself is progress for John and I. Progress in Will and Charlie's lives. They are loving putting them together and are building up a tremendous following. We laughed this week when Will said to their guest, "Now I just have one more question." They guy interrupted and said Will I know what it is. I have been listening to your podcasts. "The question is, what would I say to two young guys wishing to make a success of their lives?". So many guests have answered in the same manner. First of all, find what you love doing and do not be afraid to have a go. That has to be progress, doesn’t it?
There is nothing more evident of progress than the guest speaker Will and Charlie had on their podcast this week. Nick Jorss – The State of Australia's Mining industry and the Path forward for Energy in Australia. This is both an informative and interesting perspective on a very pertinent topic that affects all of us. I will have our social media Angel, Kat, pop up the link for your convenience.
So, there are many fields out there where we continue to progress. It is a good thing. It may not be without bumps, but the bumps can always be overcome. Let's just enjoy the progress around us with gratitude. As Louise Hay reminds, "I take the time to breathe deeply and count my blessings. Gratitude is woven throughout the tapestry of my life.”
Yes, when we commenced the business 30-odd years ago, we posted a newsletter each month. Today, with a push of a button, we can connect with so many of you and trust that you are enjoying this progress with us. Sending love for the happiest week.
