Hello Special People. By the time you receive this week's blog, we will almost be saying goodbye to March with Winter looking down the tunnel at us. I trust that you are all enjoying these gorgeous Autumn Days as much as we are. Well, travel is back on the agenda in the French household.
Mark and Amy arrived from New Zealand on Tuesday. It was so exciting. It must be at least two and a half years since we have seen the grandchildren and over twelve months since we have seen Mark and Amy. They are here for a week, and we are making the most of every minute. It was almost surreal yesterday as we sat having lunch, chatting and laughing. We have been so looking forward to this time together.
It has also started us thinking that we may take up the challenge of trekking off to an overseas destination to utilize the credit vouchers from 2020 sitting here on my desk. Take note I have only said 'thinking'. I can't stand the thought of having to wear a mask for the entire journey. Even when we are reciprocating to New Zealand, it would be three hours with the mask on plus the time at the airport waiting to board etc. – not pleasant, and neither are the options. Please don't think I am against masks. In fact, I am very supportive of them. I believe they are a necessity, and I am always ready to wear one in short bursts.
John is craving the opportunity to travel again. We had trips booked when Covid hit, and we still have credit vouchers at the Travel Companies. It would be nice to get them tidied up. I will keep checking the website to see what I can come up with. We were both so surprised at the airport – it was like a ‘ghost town’ with almost every shop, Café etc., closed. The arrival board, which we remember with lights everywhere welcoming the overseas flights, just had the flight from NZ highlighted with another flight from Singapore due an hour later. Not the buzz and excitement of families waiting to greet loved ones that we remember from the past.
On a lighter note, John had a big win this week, convincing me to become a Lions AFL member. We have been going to several games in recent years, and I must admit I do enjoy the atmosphere. So, it did not take a lot of arm twisting to decide to become a member. In fact, over the weekend, I was in front of the TV watching the Lions on Saturday night while John enjoyed the Broncos game on Sunday.
We both enjoyed the excitement of the Lions coming from behind to win, and John was certainly on the edge of his seat cheering the Broncos home. All good fun.
Now to my love, the garden. I think I mentioned in one of our previous blogs that we have to cover all our hedges and roses each night as the possums love to feed at night and have really become quite destructive. We were alerted to the fact that the possums also love to nest under the Solar panels on the roof. Sure enough, after having this checked out, they had decided to make a lovely nest under the panels. Apparently, they can decide to chew through the wires, which brings down the whole system, so this week we had the services of a Solar Panel expert to clean, possum proof and remove the nests. Between the possums, caterpillars, grasshoppers and bugs, I am not sure who is winning in the garden. While we love to garden organically, it does test my patience when I see the rosebuds all destroyed.
Until next week, take care and stay safe as we send the blessings of peace, health and happiness.
